As a key leader, how do you motivate your team?
I believe that people will feel motivated when they are engaged in meaningful work. I encourage my team to seek challenges that are worth tackling. At work, we have a slogan “ask forgiveness, not permission” which aims to encourage staff to act decisively and apologize for it later, rather than seeking approval to act. We hope this will empower and motivate our staff to find and solve their own research challenge.
In your opinion, what values are important for driving success in research?
Teamwork is the most important ingredient! Each member of my team manages multiple projects due to our unit’s workload. It’s important that we recognize our roles in achieving collective success. Therefore, when someone faces a heavy workload or urgent deadlines, offering support enhances team productivity and fosters a nurturing workplace. We can achieve more when we work cohesively as a team. I am glad to witness this powerful team spirit in action!
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
One of the most fulfilling aspects of my role is to help members of my team unlock their potential. I’m driven to understand their unique motivations and aspirations. Getting to know them on both a personal and professional level has been eye-opening and helps me in assemble the right resources and provide the right guidance to help them develop their talent and ability.
How do you enjoy your time off?
I have three young children. Playing with them is the source of my happiness!
What do you like most about CPR?
I love the agile and flexible working style at CPR. We handle a lot of projects with new concepts, so meeting an unexpected challenge is a usual occurrence. It is therefore critical for us to overcome challenges efficiently. When this happens, researchers have the autonomy to discuss and come up with solutions to tackle the problem, rather than waiting for direction from the management team. It is this empowerment that drives us to develop new projects with novel concepts.
